With reference to the correspondence noted in the margin,

respecting the rate of conversion of sterling salaries in

Hong Kong, I have the honour to enclose a copy of the

4 agreements to be entered into by men engaged or re-engaged

for the Hong Kong Police Force and to request the approval

of the Secretary of state to the following amendment to the

note to paragraph 2 of the "conditions or service"

Note The currency of Hong Kong is a silver dollar

currency, the exchange value or the dollar with sterling

varying with the price of silver. The salaries fixed in

sterling are paid to officers actually serving in Hong Kong

at a rate of conversion fixed by the Government, This rate

is now 2/- to the dollar but is liable to alteration."
